What to Know about Hunting in Oklahoma
Before arriving at your cabin rental, it’s essential to research the rules and regulations concerning hunting in Broken Bow.
Hunting Seasons
What you can hunt for depends on what hunting season it is. There are several seasons for one animal. For example, deer archery runs from October through mid-January, while hunting for whitetail deer is only allowed for just over two weeks from mid-November through the beginning of December.
There are multiple seasons for turkey hunting. In the fall, archery season is from October through mid-January, while fall gun hunting is from the end of October through mid-November. There are also two seasons in the spring as well.
Hunting Land
There are two incredible public hunting land areas in the Broken Bow area. McCurtain County Wilderness Area covers roughly 14,000 acres and is the oldest Oklahoma Wildlife Department Area. Another great option is the 5,420 acres that make up the Broken Bow Wildlife Management Area, consisting of hardwoods and rugged terrain.
No matter which area or season you choose to hunt, you can’t do anything without a hunting license. If you’re from another state, ensure you select non-resident when purchasing your license from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODOWC). The ODOWC site is also an excellent reference for more information about hunting seasons and Oklahoma hunting laws.
